District staff details rotating turf system to limit wear and projected 12–15 year lifespan

District staff described a rotating-square turf system for high-wear areas that they said would reduce recurring patch costs (estimated $3,000–$5,000 every 1–2 years without the system) and said the recommended turf should last about 12–15 years.

Jason explained the turf system the board is considering, saying it includes removable square sections in batter’s boxes and near the pitching mound that can be rotated to avoid concentrated wear. "That way, those high use areas don't wear out and get a hole in them," he said. He explained that without the system the district might pay roughly $3,000–$5,000 each time worn sections were replaced every one to two years.
