Ada County authorizes online auction for tax-deeded parcels, sets minimum bids

Ada County's treasurer asked the board to authorize minimum bids for parcels the county acquired by tax deed for tax year 2022 and to direct the treasurer to list those parcels at a public auction. The treasurer said the county waits three years of delinquency before commencing tax-due procedures and that the proposed online auction will start Aug. 31 and continue through Sept. 3.
"This auction will be held at the end of August... It's an online live auction starting August 31 and will continue until September 3," the treasurer said, adding that any excess proceeds first pay delinquent taxes, costs and fees and that residual amounts go to claimants, owners of record or the state as unclaimed property. The board voted to authorize the treasurer to offer the parcels at the minimum bids listed on the agenda.
Treasurer staff clarified there is a claims process for any excess proceeds and that the county does not retain amounts beyond taxes and costs. The board's authorization directs the treasurer to execute the auction on the county's public-surplus platform.
