Commissioners adopt county transportation project portfolio as planning tool

The Tom Green County Commissioners Court voted to adopt a resolution creating a countywide Transportation Project Portfolio and approved Exhibit A, a planning matrix of prioritized projects and coordination steps. Commissioner remarks and staff presentation stressed that the portfolio is a strategic planning document and does not authorize construction, contracts, grant acceptance, or county spending.

One commissioner summarized the intent: “This is a planning action. It doesn't authorize any construction or spending of County money right now or contracts or accepting grants,” and staff noted the portfolio will be a living document, updated as funding and project needs change. The portfolio is intended to organize transportation and flood‑resilience projects across the county and help staff pursue state and federal grant opportunities in a coordinated way.

Why it matters: Adopting a centralized portfolio helps the county present coordinated priorities to regional and state partners and positions projects for grant funding. Commissioners said the document will guide future project decisions but each project will still require separate court actions before funds are committed.
