Engineering reports Tahoe Cedars phase 1 conditional permit; construction prep under way

Engineering staff reported a recent permit milestone for the Tahoe Cedars project: the TRPA hearings officer reviewed the phase 1 application and issued a conditional permit. Director of Engineering said this is a significant step toward construction readiness for phase 1 and that staff will proceed with required preconstruction activities.

The engineering report also noted that other projects are preparing for the construction season, including preconstruction bird and tree surveys for the West Shore Trail and an upcoming roofing contractor mobilization at the Administration Building in early May. Finance and staff reiterated that district interim loan and bond proceeds are expected to be available in May, which staff said will fund imminent construction work once contracts and permits are in order.

Separately, staff announced two new operations hires will start next week, bringing the district closer to full staffing; the district reported 62 of 64 full-time positions filled and anticipated being fully staffed by June. The board received the updates and had no action on these reports at this meeting.
