Board sets follow‑up tasks: drafts, data pulls and scheduled work sessions

Following two lengthy policy discussions, the board asked staff to prepare drafts and data: a drafted 0‑tolerance policy, counts of students eligible for retention or placed/retained, peer‑reviewed research on turnaround examples, and legal guidance on enforcement/detection. Follow‑up work sessions were scheduled for August 10 and August 24.
At the end of both major discussions the board moved from debate to concrete next steps. Members requested staff to produce: (1) a draft board policy and scenario guidance for a clarified 0‑tolerance approach to student substance use; (2) legal guidance and cost estimates for potential detection technology and canine searches; (3) retention data (eligible, retained, placed) and SAT‑team activity counts; and (4) a literature review or case study information on recognized turnaround examples.
Chair and administrative staff agreed to add those items to upcoming work sessions on August 10 and August 24, and requested written materials be provided in advance to allow board members time to review. The meeting closed with a motion to adjourn.
