Council declares three structures substandard and orders removal or demolition
After public hearings, the Merkel City Council found three properties (404 Lois, 412 Edwards, 302 Locust) to be substandard and approved orders to remove or demolish them; one order requires action within 10 days, the other two within 60 days. All votes were 5-0.

The council held three separate public hearings and took formal action on potentially substandard structures. For 404 Lois, the council opened the hearing at 7:52 PM, heard staff description from A.J. Short, found the structure substandard (motion by Tyler Newberry, seconded by Elaine Chaney) and approved an order requiring removal or demolition within 10 days (motion by Matthew Riggan, seconded by Lexi Smith); votes were 5-0.
