Committee supports transferring solid-waste-fee authority to Select Board, volunteers to draft comments
Summary

Chair Jillian Prendergast summarized a warrant article that would transfer authority to govern solid-waste collection fees from the Board of Health to the Select Board; she clarified this change would not itself set new fees but would relocate governance of fee-setting. "Just making it very clear that that's set by the Select Board," Prendergast said while describing the draft control-c article accepted onto the warrant.
Committee members generally supported the shift, saying the Select Board is more accustomed to handling budgetary controversies and fee disputes. One committee member volunteered to draft the Finance Committee’s comment for the warrant and the chair said the committee could finalize and vote on that comment at its next meeting after reviewing sponsor language. The committee also noted the article might be edited to list the Select Board as sole sponsor rather than a joint sponsor with the Board of Health.
