Tazewell — The Tazewell County Planning Commission on June 11 authorized County Engineering Director Kenneth Dunford to approve erosion‑and‑sediment control plans for a proposed meat processing facility at the Bluestone site once Dunford’s remaining comments were addressed. Architect Todd Boggess described control measures including diversion channels, diversion dikes and silt fencing and said the total land disturbance would be slightly under one acre.
Following the approval action, Mr. Boggess presented a PowerPoint (attached to the minutes) outlining the DeJong process design for an FDA‑compliant facility. The slides list an initial throughput of 20 beef animals per week, an aging cooler sized to hold 120+ sides based on a 15‑day aging cycle, and a building footprint designed to permit a future expansion that could double capacity. The Commission waived fees and bond for the project because it is a county project; Mr. Dunford will finalize the plan after the applicant addresses remaining staff comments.
