Lorain County extends Microtransit pilot with River North Transit for Elyria and Lorain

The board approved a six‑month extension of a Microtransit pilot with River North Transit, LLC (a Via subsidiary) from July 15, 2026, through January 30, 2027, under a not‑to‑exceed contract of $1,220,000. The contractor will provide vehicles, drivers, scheduling, outreach and reporting.
Lorain County Transit’s Microtransit pilot in Elyria and Lorain will continue for another six months after the Board of Commissioners approved an extension on July 17.
The contract extension with River North Transit, LLC (a wholly owned subsidiary of Via Transportation, Inc.) continues service Monday–Friday, 6:30 a.m.–6:30 p.m., and covers vehicles, drivers, scheduling/dispatch, technical support, marketing and data reporting. The board approved a not‑to‑exceed contract amount of $1,220,000 for the period July 15, 2026 through January 30, 2027 (Resolution 26‑412). Moore and Gallagher moved and seconded the resolution, which carried with Commissioner Riddell absent and excused.
County staff said the pilot provides on‑demand rides in targeted service areas and that contract reporting will allow the county to evaluate ridership, cost per trip and coverage before any longer‑term decision on service models.
