Board approves district professional development plan that includes civics training and CISD Choice partnership update

The Canyon ISD Board of Trustees approved the district professional development plan for 2026–2027 at the July 13 meeting after a presentation by Adam Cummings. The motion, moved by Dr. Mandi Palmer and seconded by Casey Posey, carried unanimously (6 in favor). The minutes note summer professional development activity and that CISD hosted civics training for Region 16 educators to meet newly required training requirements.
Separately during superintendent communications, Dr. Darryl Flusche provided an update on CISD Choice, a program offered in partnership with Texas Tech for grades 9–12, and noted community outreach including an editorial about district financial challenges. The minutes also noted City of Canyon sidewalk improvements near intermediate and junior-high campuses to improve pedestrian safety.
