The commission approved Ordinance 32-26 to formalize the Development Services Management Group (DSMG) as an administrative body that can approve small deviations from development standards in technical or site-specific situations. Anthea Notis explained DSMG is comprised of technical directors and operates in public with minutes; the ordinance grants the group authority to approve deviations up to 5% or approximately one foot for limited situations that repeatedly required waivers.
Notis described the change as an effort to streamline a process that had been returning repeatedly to the commission for minor adjustments: "so it's just an effort to streamline the process a little bit for minor issues," she said, adding that if DSMG denies a request the appeal would still come to the commission through the usual channels. Commissioners voiced support for the streamlined approach and the ordinance passed on its second reading.
