Lynden council unanimously declines two TIB grants over local funding concerns

The Lynden City Council voted unanimously to decline two Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) grants after the Public Works Committee concluded the needed local matches and loan repayments would overly burden the city's Transportation Benefit District (TBD) fund. The Schoolyard Park Complete Streets project was estimated at $752,000 with a TIB award of $500,000, leaving a proposed local match of $252,000; the W. Main/Berthusen roundabout carried an estimated cost of $6,000,000 with a TIB award of $1,200,000 plus a Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB) loan of $4,500,000 that would require about $307,083 in annual repayments over 17 years.
