The South Ogden City Council voted to support Weber County's 2024 pre-disaster mitigation plan during its Aug. 19 meeting, approving Resolution 25-26 to signify local backing before the county completes FEMA formalization.
Fire Chief West, who addressed the council, said: "It is 2024. It took that long for FEMA to approve it." He explained the plan is county-level, FEMA-required and would help recoup funds and open eligibility for mitigation grants; the current council vote indicates support and the county will complete formal adoption after FEMA review.
Chief West and staff noted the vote is an administrative step in a multi-stage process; it does not itself finalize local ordinances or guarantee grant awards. Council members moved and seconded the resolution, and the council adopted it by roll call with no recorded opposition.
Council members asked no substantive amendments and staff said they would return with any follow-up items once FEMA completes its process.
