Commission extends temporary moratorium on data centers 90 days while drafting ordinance

County Administrator John Gorton asked the Board to extend the current moratorium on data center development, which was due to expire Aug. 23, so staff could complete and present a draft ordinance addressing the County27s identified concerns.
Gorton said staff was close to finishing a draft and recommended a 90-day extension. "Staff is requesting the Board extend the moratorium for an additional 90 days, through November 21, 2026, to allow sufficient time to complete and present a proposed data center ordinance," Gorton said. He also reported that legal counsel had reviewed the moratorium form. Vice Chairman Jennifer Snelson moved to approve the extension and allow the Chairman to sign; the motion passed unanimously.
The extension pauses new data center permits while staff finalizes ordinance language and performs any additional legal review.
