The full story

A captain from the Eaton County Sheriff's Office briefed the board on a proposed contract with Smart Communications that responds to a recent Federal Communications Commission action limiting the amounts local correctional facilities may charge inmates. The captain said the county previously charged 19' per minute for phone calls but the FCC now permits 9' per minute; under the proposed contract the county would receive 2' per minute. He also said video visitation rates were reduced and messaging features were restructured so the county would receive a share of messaging revenue.
