Commission appoints Ryan Shum as interim county attorney

Washington County commissioners approved a resolution appointing Ryan Shum as interim county attorney effective Aug. 8. County staff told the commission that the local party will nominate candidates for the permanent appointment later this month; in the interim, Ryan Shum will serve until the commission makes a permanent appointment.
At the meeting Shum introduced himself and noted his long service to the county attorney’s office: "This is my 29th year," he said, recounting that he joined the office in 1997 after several years of prosecutorial work in Idaho. Commission members thanked him and expressed confidence in continuity of the county-attorney function until a permanent selection is made.
Staff and commissioners noted the state-code process for permanent appointment will follow the local party’s nomination of three candidates; the interim appointment ensures the office remains staffed during the transition.
