Council split on Barton Hill stop sign; majority agrees to trial installation

Engineers told council the site has limited sight distance and at least one crash recorded in the last three years; they recommended a stop control to reduce collision risk.
Council members who drive the road raised concerns about the grade: several said accelerating from a stop on the steep approach could increase rear-end collisions. One councilmember summarized the tradeoff: "I'm inclined to on the side of caution and go with the stop sign." The majority agreed to install the stop sign and add advanced warning signs and speed-limit adjustments where needed, but asked staff to monitor the intersection and return with data if the stop control increases safety concerns. Staff also noted some changes may require coordination with Comal County because portions of the intersection are outside city limits.
