County amends its executive-order resolution to reflect Massachusetts Protect Act

Commissioner Sheila Bergstrom moved to amend the county's 2026 resolution implementing Massachusetts Executive Order 6-50 to incorporate the recently passed Massachusetts Protect Act, asking to extend the order's restrictions to county-owned and leased properties. "I move to amend...the resolution implementation of Massachusetts executive order 6 50 as it relates to Barnstable County owned and leased properties to reflect the passage of the Massachusetts Protect Act," Bergstrom said as she introduced the motion.
The board approved the amendment by roll-call vote with Commissioners Bergstrom and Lyons recorded as "aye" and Chair Mark Forrest also voting in favor; the chair announced the motion carried unanimously. Commissioners said the Protect Act's limits on deputizing local police for immigration enforcement and its restrictions on civil immigration arrests in sensitive places aligned with the county's prior policy goals and merited explicit inclusion in county policy.
