Page County engineer reports J‑53 complete, updates on pipe and maintenance work

JD King, Page County engineer, briefed the Board of Supervisors on maintenance and ongoing projects, saying crews are working on a line of pipe replacements on M 56 and that “The J 53 project is complete. We're doing paperwork for that.”

King reported crews are cleaning bridges and trimming posts on J 64, a leased tractor mower is in for service, and the county is keeping chips from the J 53 site for spray patching if heat causes oil to bleed. He said the county’s fiscal year annual report was submitted last week and is awaiting review by the Department of Transportation. King also noted the Iowa State Association of Counties (ISAC) conference is next week and confirmed there will be no board meeting next week.

Chair opened the update to questions; supervisors asked for clarifications on specific road sections and equipment availability. King said a tandem truck at the shop has an air leak and that a pipe crew will complete six more pipe replacements on the M 56 stretch before moving to Dee Avenue (also referred to as the road to Westborough), where a large pipe replacement was partially funded by Hungry Canyons.

The progress report was procedural and informational; no board action was taken on the items King described. The board directed staff to return on schedule with any contract or funding items that require formal approval.
