Fairfax County seeks ideas in open RFEI to help meet 90% diversion goal
Fairfax County launched an open request for expressions of interest (RFEI) to solicit proposals across recycling, organics, processing, infrastructure and new technologies to help reach its long‑term goal of 90% diversion by 2040; responses are due Oct. 30.

Melissa McDonald, the county’s sustainability projects manager, opened the information session announcing Fairfax County’s RFEI and emphasized it is an informational solicitation, not a procurement: "The RFEI is not a procurement and it does not constitute a solicitation, a contract, or any payment." She told attendees the county seeks high‑level pitches that explain who the proposer is, what the idea is, how it works and why the county should partner with them.
