Lewisboro forms Climate Smart Community task force to pursue certification

The Town Board approved establishing a Climate Smart Community Task Force on Aug. 10 to organize documentation and pursue state Climate Smart Communities certification.

A board member described the step as largely administrative: the town made a Climate Smart pledge years ago but had not packaged its activities for certification, and the task force — to be nested under the existing sustainability committee — will help assemble required documentation. A board member said there would be no new cost to form the task force and noted that certification can help score applications for state grants.

Board members discussed targeting Bronze-level certification initially and submitting materials during the next application cycle in January. The town’s chief of staff was thanked in the discussion for leading the effort.

Next steps: the town will solicit volunteers and assemble documentation, aiming to compile the required submissions ahead of the January application period.
