Board approves addition to Lexington volunteer firehouse

A project representative described plans to lengthen the existing Lexington firehouse by 22 feet to add office space, storage and meeting rooms. The representative said the addition would still be generally consistent with adjoining properties' distances from Highway 356, though a variance was needed because the town is zoned agricultural. "We're looking to do some additions... roughly 33 and 0.5 feet from the center of Highway 356 and 21.5 feet from the edge of the road," the representative said, explaining dimensions and how the addition compares to neighboring setbacks.

Board members reviewed the plans and asked standard questions about dimensions and driveway placement; a motion to approve the addition as presented carried by voice vote. The board entered the submitted plans into the record and advised the applicant to follow building permit and inspection requirements.
