Wellington library reports rising participation and plans 'AI-free' workstations

Library director Ross Lajonesz reported a 31% increase in summer reading participation and said the library is piloting Linux workstations that default to an "AI-free" browsing experience while keeping AI-enabled machines available for patrons who want them; he also described work with a state task force on AI in libraries.

Library director Ross Lajonesz told trustees the summer reading program saw a 31% increase in participation over the prior year and a 62% increase in program-specific events, crediting volunteers and community partners. He also thanked the Friends of the Library and public works for lobby improvements, new shelving and signage to improve accessibility.
