Pickin County updates Age Friendly plan, seeks municipal input

Pickin County staff presented an updated five-year Age Friendly Initiative and asked municipal partners to join implementation and outreach efforts.

"The goal is to ensure residents can age safely, remain connected and continue contributing to the community," said Lindsay Meish, director of human services at Pickin County, describing the plan as a "North Star" to guide housing, transportation and social services through 2030. Emily Langford, the county's senior services supervisor, summarized the eight AARP domains of livability and highlighted priorities including legal aid access, caregiver resources, nutrition programs and home modification supports.

The presenters said the county will continue annual reporting and municipal outreach; they requested that the City of Aspen and other local governments include senior-center programming in city communications and coordinate on transportation services. Council members recommended using city channels (newsletters, hotel in-room materials and the Downtowner app) to broaden awareness of senior services and suggested stronger linkages with library outreach and local housing plans.

The presentation included local service metrics: county staff reported roughly 4,800 residents currently "aging in place," about a quarter of Pickin County's population, and noted rising senior-center participation and food-security needs. Staff said they would return with baseline domain metrics where available to show progress over time.
