Council adopts Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code with structure‑hardening requirements
At second reading the council adopted Ordinance No. 6 to implement the 2025 Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code. The measure applies higher ignition‑resistant standards for new construction, additions and major alterations, outlines new site management requirements, and preserves historically designated property exemptions.

Bonnie Muheigerwa, Aspen’s chief building official, presented Ordinance No. 6 implementing the 2025 Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code and noted local adoption is required by April 1, 2026 for communities in the wildland‑urban interface. Muheigerwa said the code’s ignition‑resistant measures—covering exterior walls, roofs, eaves, decks and exterior glazing—are already largely included in Aspen’s 2023 code updates but the city plans to apply the highest level of structure hardening citywide for new construction and major alterations.
