Administrative specialist Shirley Watkins read a county proclamation designating Aug. 14, 2026, as Navajo Code Talker Day, recounting the service of Navajo Marines in World War II and the code's role at Iwo Jima and in Allied operations. "Coconino County Board of Supervisors do hereby designate 08/14/2026 as Navajo Code Talker Day," Watkins read, and the board expressed unanimous appreciation for code talkers and their families.
