Committee recommends moving parking penalties into fee schedule

Members reviewed the ordinance's penalty language, which currently specifies a $25 penalty for parking violations and allows court fines up to $100 plus costs. Several members questioned whether the ordinance should include fixed dollar amounts: "So do we want to we can absolutely say, though, that we recommend they take a look at and potentially increase and put it in their other fee schedules," the Chair said. The committee voted to recommend removing fixed penalties from the ordinance and instead refer enforcement fines to the board of selectmen's fee schedule.

The motion to remove specific penalty amounts and move them to the fee schedule carried unanimously. The committee explained the change would give the board flexibility to adjust fines without re-adopting ordinance language and recommended the board of selectmen review and set updated fees in the town's fee schedule.
