Planning staff briefed the commissioners on potential data-center activity along fiber trunk lines that run through parts of Fremont County, noting that some locations could host small facilities but that state-level regulation is sparse. Staff suggested the county could develop permitting rules similar to wind and solar regulations to require setbacks, reclamation bonds and permit fees if the county chose to exert local control.
