Commissioners to review RISE board proposals Aug. 25; Planning Commission prepares special session

Staff told the board the commissioners rescheduled a meeting for Aug. 25 at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium to review materials presented by the RISE board and to accept public comment. The staff member said, "That's when they're going to look at what the RISE board has presented to them, and take public comments." Brad Johnson and other members encouraged attendance and noted there may be modifications requested by the public.

Members discussed logistics and whether the Planning Commission should schedule a special meeting to consider any commission-proposed ordinance amendments. The consultant noted a state statute that gives the Planning Commission a 60-day window to hold public hearings on amendments proposed by commissioners; members tentatively picked Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. as a likely special meeting date pending distribution of the commissioners' documents.

Why it matters: the Aug. 25 commissioners meeting and any subsequent Planning Commission action could change text to ordinances affecting solar, BESS, or other development projects. Public comment at the commissioners' session may shape final conditions sent back to the Planning Commission or BZA.

Next steps: staff will circulate documents received from the commissioners and the RISE board; the Planning Commission expects to set a special meeting if the commissioners forward amendments that require a public hearing.
