The Douglas County Board on May 5 approved an application from Horizon Public Health to use county property — the courthouse north lawn — for a butterfly release event scheduled for Aug. 11, 2026, with Aug. 12 as a backup date. Event hours are recorded as 4:30–7:00 p.m. The motion to approve the permit carried on a unanimous vote (Yes — Kalina, Meyer, Rapp, Schmidt and Way).
