Middletown planner reports slow movement on major projects; sign-code clarification sought

Staff Planner JJ Hartner told the board there has been little movement on two development proposals — Foxfield 6 and the co-located school project — and that the town is still waiting for a response from the town attorney on a traffic memorandum-of-understanding tied to the school complex development.

Hartner noted nine residential zoning certificate applications were received in May and that the Board of Appeals variance request for a South Jefferson Street property is delayed because the owner needs to provide additional information. A public hearing on a Forest Conservation Regulation update is scheduled for the Monday meeting to help the town meet new State requirements by July 1.

Hartner also said Zion Lutheran Church is seeking to replace its sign with a digital sign that "does not meet the town code and was grandfathered in," and asked the board to clarify the code language that governs illuminated or moving signs. The planner listed upcoming meetings, including a sustainability committee meeting on June 16 and a planning commission workshop on June 10.
