Staff presented a restructured firefighter pay plan that raises starting pay and creates clearer incentive steps for advanced certifications. Eric said the new starting pay for firefighter trainees would be $42,020.16, a 3.66% increase, with firefighter 2/EMT engineer at a new starting pay of $49,008.96 (about 4.53% increase). He also described a new AEMT band and a 5% jump from EMT to AEMT and an additional 5% from AEMT to paramedic pay bands.
