Residents defend senior banners; concerns raised about banner-request process
Community members and Senior Outreach leaders told Pitman council that the "Seniors Celebrating Seniors" banners were grassroots and parent-sponsored, while other residents questioned fairness and clarity of the banner-request process during the Nov. 10 work session.

Eileen Salmon, chairwoman of Senior Outreach, said the "Seniors Celebrating Seniors" concept grew from interest among parents and committee members rather than a formal committee vote, and organizers had received community interest for the banners. Gwen Sharp of the Pitman High School Alumni Association said participation levels meant double-sided banners were not feasible and that parents and businesses sponsored the effort.
