Onondaga County reports rising adult protective services caseloads, more complex risks
The county's adult protective services unit reported increases in referrals, higher rates of financial exploitation and untreated medical issues, and a surge in assisted hoarding cleanups — trends the commissioner said are straining resources.

The committee heard that Adult Protective Services in Onondaga County is seeing higher volumes and more complex cases. Commissioner Joanne Spododecker told legislators that referrals are up roughly 8% year over year, financial exploitation reports are up about 10%, untreated medical conditions are up about 15%, and assisted hoarding interventions rose to 285 cleanups (a 54% increase from the prior year).
