Board extends moratorium on data-mining ordinance to allow thorough drafting

The board voted to extend the moratorium on data-mining regulations (Resolution 1142-09-09-2025) through Aug. 31, 2026, so the zoning commission can finish a comprehensive zoning update and then draft a separate data-mining ordinance.

Zoning staff told the Jackson County Board of Supervisors that drafting a data-mining ordinance alongside a comprehensive zoning update proved to be too much for the commission to handle simultaneously. Staff asked the board to extend the existing moratorium so the zoning commission can finish the zoning update (public hearing slated for Oct. 20) and then dedicate time to the data-mining ordinance.
