Planning staff to 'hit pause' on data‑center permitting as county frames standards
After commissioners raised concerns about data centers' water, power and infrastructure impacts, Community Development staff said the county will 'hit pause' on allowing data centers and return to the Planning Commission within roughly 90 days with recommended development standards and next steps.

At the meeting's close, Commissioner Lyle asked the Planning Commission to consider data centers as an emerging land‑use issue; Kate Morales O'Neil, Principal Planner for Community Development, said staff and the County Manager's Office have been tracking inquiries and will pause ad hoc approvals while they draft standards and development criteria.
