Smyth County agrees to serve as fiscal agent for regional HUD grant pre‑application; approves ARC training application
The Board authorized the county administrator to submit a HUD regional housing pre‑application on behalf of the Wellspring Foundation and four counties and approved a letter of support so County Tourism Director Amanda Livingston may apply for ARC Ready Local Governments training, which could make Smyth eligible for a $50,000 capacity grant.

On July 23 the Smyth County Board of Supervisors authorized County Administrator Shawn Utt to submit pre‑application documents for the HUD 'Pathways to Removing Obstacles' regional housing grant on behalf of the Wellspring Foundation and participating counties (Washington, Russell, Grayson and Smyth). The Board recorded that the award amount had not yet been disclosed and Supervisor Rick Billings asked for Board oversight of any grant award uses.
