Emergency management coordinator outlines three hazard-mitigation plans

David Volk, Leet Township’s Emergency Management Coordinator, told the Board he and Commissioner Donna Adipietro submitted three hazard mitigation plans to Allegheny County aimed at improving local flood response and evacuation options. He said the first plan would create a written protocol to trigger coordinated action by the fire, police, and public works departments when the National Weather Service issues flood reports and local creek gauges show rising levels.

The second plan would evaluate switching to a more user-friendly reverse-911 emergency call system, which Volk described as less cumbersome than the Township’s current system. The third plan examines a potential secondary ingress/egress route for Leet Acres and options for managing trees along Watson Street; Solicitor Steve Chesney advised contacting Duquesne Light about leaning trees. Manager Betsy Rengers said Duquesne Light inspected trees in late October and reported they appeared healthy. The Board acknowledged the work and expressed gratitude to Volk and Adipietro for their efforts.
