Applicants describe beer‑garden controls for Jeep Fest while commissioners press for limits

An organizer appearing before the Board of License Commissioners said the proposed Jeep Fest/Oktoberfest event will limit alcohol sales through ticketed purchases, wristbands and trained servers and bartenders. "We have 11 that are doing that," the applicant said, describing volunteer monitoring and professional bartenders responsible for pouring.

The applicant said tickets are sold two at a time and servers and ticket sellers are alcohol‑awareness trained; volunteers and at least one contracted bouncer will monitor egress from the beer garden. "They can only buy 2 tickets at a time," the applicant said, and added the event previously raised more than $125,000 for St. Jude but lost roughly $15,000 when rain forced an indoor move in a prior year.

Commissioners and the county inspector pressed for operational clarity, asking whether organizers had thought about per‑person consumption limits and whether law enforcement would assist with traffic control. One commissioner urged a benchmark cap for service, noting it might be difficult to police but helpful as a safeguard. Inspector Bamford said he had no reservations about the application as presented but recommended that organizers meet with Mount Airy police.

The board did not record a formal vote on this presentation during the segment; staff noted the one‑day license requests would proceed through the routine consent list and other pending applications.
