Spurger ISD board approves consent agenda, budget changes and pay-plan amendment

The Spurger Independent School District Board of Trustees convened Oct. 16, 2025, and officially called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. by Presiding Officer Carroll Hatton. The meeting established a quorum and the board recorded members present, including trustees Bradley Heim, Forrest Anderson, Derrick Gray and Cheryl Spangler, and Superintendent Jeff Burnthorn.

During routine business the board moved and approved the consent agenda (motion moved by Derrick Gray and seconded by Forrest Anderson). The consent items included approval of the minutes from the Sept. 18, 2025, regular meeting and the Oct. 9, 2025, special-called meeting. The board also approved budget amendment(s) after a motion by Derrick Gray and seconded by Cheryl Spangler; the transcript records both motions as passing unanimously. The meeting included the quarterly investment report approval and an amendment to the 2025–2026 pay plan (see separate articles for each item). The board entered closed session at 7:36 p.m. and returned to open session at 8:10 p.m., then adjourned at 8:12 p.m.
