A resident asked if the county has considered GPS tracking on county vehicles to prevent personal use; staff said it had been considered but cited implementation costs and offered to investigate fuel-card and mileage data further.

David Fulton asked county staff whether Smyth County had ever discussed installing GPS units on county sedans and other vehicles to detect improper personal use. Fulton said he had seen county vehicles in Bristol and asked whether officials had checked for misuse. "Have they ever been in consideration of improper use?" Fulton asked.
