Salary Grievance Committee recommends $100,000 base pay for three Midland County constables

MIDLAND — The Midland County Salary Grievance Committee on Aug. 13 unanimously recommended raising the base salary for three elected constables to $100,000.

Committee member Susan Vermillion, during the public deliberation, said the panel would "unanimously recommend a base salary of $100,000.00 in addition to longevity and allowances and any supplements for Constable Precinct 2, Constable Precinct 3 and Constable Precinct 4." The recommendation was signed by nine committee members and Commissioner Dianne Anderson signed as Committee Chairman, according to the minutes entered into the record.

Earlier in the hearing, Scott Casbeer, Constable Precinct 2, Jerry Cook II, Constable Precinct 3, and Jamie Hall, Constable Precinct 4, each presented a salary grievance and "requested a base salary of $90,000.00," with exhibits entered for each presentation (Exhibits 3-11). Committee members questioned the presenters and reviewed supporting materials while Assistant County Attorney Kimberly Toulett, Treasurer Sara Gray and Auditor Veronica Morales answered factual and legal questions from the panel.

The action taken was a formal recommendation by the Salary Grievance Committee; the transcript does not record a formal motion maker or seconder. The minutes show the committee signed and filed the recommendation (Exhibits 12-13). The meeting adjourned at 6:18 p.m., and the Midland County Clerk, Alison Haley, certified the minutes as accurate.
