The Board considered a resolution and transition plan proposing the closure and consolidation of Port O'Connor Elementary School, citing declining enrollment and a district budget deficit. The plan said approximately 55 students would be consolidated to Seadrift or other district campuses based on family preference. After discussion, Trustee Tyler McAfee moved and Trustee Cindy Alford seconded postponement indefinitely; the motion passed 5-2 (NAYS: Brian Batts and Bill Shrader).
