Applicant seeks rear renovation at 8 Garden Street; board asks for window samples and revised elevations

An applicant presented a proposal for work at 8 Garden Street that would replace existing single‑pane windows with dual‑pane windows matched to the current trim, reconfigure a cramped kitchen and bathroom to expand the dining area and add a shower to an existing studio. The presenter said the project would also install an outside HVAC condenser tied into the main house and the new interior spaces. "There is, 4 main goals in our project, and the 1st 1 is to replace the existing windows, which is, single pane glass," the applicant said.

Board members questioned the window operation and muntin patterns and flagged visual impact from the street. One member asked whether the larger dining‑room window could be shown as two rectangular double‑hung windows instead of a single wide square unit; the presenter agreed to provide that alternate. Members also emphasized the commission’s rules on materials: fiberglass frames are not preapproved and "we need to see a sample of them," a committee member said, noting staff would want an in‑person review of any fiberglass finish.

The board did not approve final materials at the meeting. Instead members asked the applicant to deliver a fiberglass sample to the office, submit a full catalog cut sheet for the proposed Marvin Elevate windows, and file revised elevations showing the alternate two‑window option for the dining room. The applicant said they would return with the requested materials.
