Council asks staff to check ash-tree inventory after constituent seeks refund
May 20, 2026
A resident paid half to remove an ash tree and councilors said the city’s Ash Street Fund should have covered the cost if the tree was inventoried as public right-of-way; staff reported roughly 60 ash trees remain and was asked to confirm the inventory and refund outcome.
The full story
Councilors discussed a constituent complaint that a removed ash tree had been charged 50% to the homeowner when the Ash Street Fund should have covered full removal if the tree was in the public right-of-way. A council member said the removal "should have been paid for 100% by the city." Staff was asked to check the inventory and confirm whether subway/right-of-way trees were included so the city can determine whether the resident is owed reimbursement.
