Committee approves three appointments after supervisor disputes county executive's process

The Kenosha County Human Services Committee approved three appointment resolutions at its July 7 meeting, voting to appoint John O'Day, reappoint Veronica King and appoint Luke Pollock.

During discussion, a supervisor (S5) criticized the county executive's handling of the reappointment process and said the executive had been "doing nothing but lie" when asked questions about reappointments. The supervisor said the decision appeared political but added, "I believe supervisor qualifies as anybody else on this board, and it will be my pleasure to support him." The speaker also said their own term had expired on Jan. 5 and described prior months of conversations with the county executive about reappointment.

The candidate invited to speak (S7) described personal experience navigating assisted-living and long-term care for family members and called Brookside a "gold standard in Kenosha." The candidate asked for the committee's vote and described relevant caregiving experience. Another supervisor (S4) told the committee the county executive cited the candidate's firsthand experience with family caregiving as one reason for the appointment.

The committee took voice votes; the chair called the ayes and the resolutions passed by voice vote. The motions to approve the three resolutions were presented as a package and carried unanimously.

What happens next: the appointments move forward per the usual county process; the committee did not request additional follow-up or hold separate roll-call tallies for the individual resolutions.
