The Powhatan County Planning Commission on May 5 recommended approval of CUP 2601CUP, a conditional use permit to build a Walmart‑owned fuel center and convenience retail building on the outparcel adjacent to the existing Walmart on Anderson Highway. Planning Director Ligon Webb summarized the request as “a conditional use permit to put a gas station, also referred to as a fuel center, with convenience retail on a general commercial zone parcel,” noting the proposal includes “7 pump pump stations, 14 fueling positions” and a convenience building of a little over 1,600 square feet. The staff recommendation included ten conditions addressing site layout, buffering, lighting and interparcel connectivity; Webb said the project “incorporates internal trip capture, future interparcel connections, and corridor buffering along Anderson Highway.”
