Big Stone County imposes temporary moratorium on data centers to allow ordinance drafting
The board unanimously approved a moratorium on data center development in the county to give the planning commission time to craft a new ordinance; the action followed a recommendation from the County Attorney that no county ordinance currently exists for data centers.

The Big Stone County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a temporary moratorium on data center development on July 21, 2026. The motion to initiate the moratorium was made by Commissioner Athey and seconded by Commissioner Klages.
