Council backs regional resolution after Joint Forces Command closure announcement

City staff asked the council to adopt a prepared joint-resolution in response to the Secretary of Defense's announcement concerning Joint Forces Command. Bruce Dirk updated the council on regional coordination and said the goal is to preserve key capabilities — notably the Joint Warfare Center and modeling-and-simulation work — and to press for congressional involvement.

"The internal plan that Joint Forces Command is, is marching to right now shows about a year long, drawdown," Dirk said in response to council questions about timing. He described ongoing outreach to senators and congressional staff and said staff will compile economic-impact information for decision makers. Council members raised concerns about contractor workforce reductions and ripple effects on local businesses and jobs.

After discussion the council moved to accept and sign the prepared resolution to show regional solidarity. The clerk called the roll and the motion passed with recorded 'Aye' votes. Staff said the city will continue to coordinate with regional partners and congressional representatives and to provide information for hearings and analysis.
