The board reviewed a draft resolution urged by the Virginia Association of Counties concerning proposed state legislation (House Bill 1263 and Senate Bill 378) that would expand collective bargaining rights for local government employees and teachers. Speaker 2 said the county could face major long-term cost increases if the bills are enacted and cited a rough estimate of "3 or $4,000,000" in additional costs for the county and school system together.
